Windermere is one of the smallest communities in the Orlando-Kissimmee Metropolitan Statistical Area. With just over 3,000 residents and about 1.1 square miles in land, Windermere contains some of the most prestigious neighborhoods in the United States and is well established as the linchpin in Central Florida's luxury real estate market. It's a favorite of professionals, families, and many national celebrities. Among other things, Windermere is famous for the Butler Chain of Lakes that connects 11 lakes that border almost the entire city Windermere, creating a haven for boating, water skiing, fishing, and swimming year-round.
The Windermere community was established in the late 1880s. It was chartered in 1925 and since has become an incorporated municipality, complete with its own town manager and city council. As an incorporated municipality, Windermere real estate offers residents a variety of city-based services. It operates its own police department but relies on Orange County for fire and rescue services. While it doesn't have much in regard to landmass, it makes up with that fact with its growing population and business climate.
Many Windermere residents do commute outside of the community to work, but the town does have some business activity to its credit. It is also the home of several top-rated schools and offers its residents a peaceful existence along the shores of several lakes. Built on an isthmus, this Orange County city is tiny but offers those interested in Windermere real estate some big advantages.
