The History of Winter Park

In 1858, eight acres of land was purchased by David Mizelle. He founded the town of Lake View but later changed the name to Oceola in 1879. Two years later, a further 600 acres of land along Lake Maitland was purchased by a Chicago-born visitor named Loring Chase. The new town, founded with his partner O.E. Chapman, was called Winter Park.
