Montverde is a small town of around 1,000 residents, and its surrounding areas are rich with history, rural living, exquisite vistas, rolling hills and a multitude of desirable real estate. The town has its own volunteer fire department with two fire trucks; plus a brush truck for woods fires. All parts of town are served by the municipal water system which includes a network of fire hydrants.

Parks and Recreation in Montverde FL

Kirk Park

Is an oak shaded park with a pavilion, playground, the Montverde community center, tennis court, lighted baseball field, picnic tables and barbeque grills.

Montverde has historic and pictoresque cemetery with an extraordinary number of Civil War Veterans for a cemetery of its size in Central Florida.

The highest point in the Florida peninsula at 312 ft.

Clay Island

Located in the Restoration area on the northern shore of Lake Apopka, composed of 20,068 acres, has become known for its remarkable diversity of bird species. More than 270 birds have been counted. 5.7 miles of trails and an observation tower on the shoreline.

Archeological Resources

The area was once populated by Native American Indians-the Timucua, then Seminole. Twelve archeological sites have been identified. The sites vary from scattered isolated Timucua artifacts to burial mounds with remains. Many artifacts have been found by area residents on the west shore of Lake Apopka, including a dugout canoe that is on display at the Helen Lehman Memorial Library in Montverde.
