The Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach, Florida, Metropolitan Statistical Area claims Volusia as its sole county. U.S. Route 1 and Interstate 95 run north-south within Volusia.

Volusia County lies on the east coast of Florida approximately 90 miles south of Jacksonville. With a total area of 1207 square miles, there are 47 miles of wide, hard-packed beaches, which made it an ideal proving for early auto pioneers Louis Chevrolet and Henry Ford.

Volusia County Homes

The county seat of DeLand shows off Southern charm and has many old, tree-lined streets as well as an award-winning, revitalized downtown area. The county is about an hour's drive north of the Kennedy Space Center, a couple of hours from Tampa. Volusia County is also less than an hour from Orlando and the amusement parks and Jacksonville because of its access to interstate both Interstate 4 and Interstate 95.

Volusia County is considered to be the "Birthplace of Speed". Every February, Daytona Beach plays host to the Daytona 500 auto race, which kicks off the NASCAR racing season. Daytona Beach is also the home of the Ladies Professional Golf Association. There are a number of excellent golf clubs and courses in the area, providing all levels of skill and experience with challenging play.

Along the western border of the county, the St. Johns River provides areas for many water sports including fishing, boating, and water skiing as well as providing a beautiful scenic background and links with several state parks.

Volusia based industries include Boston Whaler boats and Hawaiian Tropic suntan products. Located in the county are several highly regarded institutions of higher learning including Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Stetson University, Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach Community College and satellite campuses for the University of Central Florida.
